This is the thing I've been ignoring everything to try and get finished. It's an original staff with the working name Yorick, although the new owner will hopefully give it something better!
The sheep skull is mounted on a manuka pole. I made the horns from expanding foam and sculptamold on a wire base, then painted over with acrylic. The 'mane' is handspun wool and leather strips. The top is bound in leather with a thong criss-crossed to the bottom, and there's a bone spur on a natural sticky-outy bit (visible in the other pic).
But the cool thing about this staff is it has LED eyes that light up only when the owner picks it up. Concealed under all that hair are:
* Hall effect sensor
* 9v battery
* 9v to 5v voltage regulator
* AT Tiny85 microcontroller (this is actually inside the brain box hehe)
With the staff comes a resin ring that has a rare earth magnet set into it. So she grabs the staff (or goes near it), and if it's switched on the sensor will pick up the magnetic field and send a signal to the Tiny, which then tells the LEDs to light up the eyes. When she puts it down or walks away, the eyes slowly fade out.
It's creepy as hell and I love it.
